SAKU STARS 2019

As the theme for 2019 was Dream Hard, my initial idea was to model a sleeping head with a scene coming out the back, then print it with a 3D printer and reconstruct it.

I made a list of objects I'd like to include, modeled them and the head using Meshmixer and SketchUP, then wrote down all the sizes to make them all fit together.

Unfortunately we've run out of filament for the printer, so I was pressed for time and resources. We received the filament maybe a week before the deadline. I got to printing all the objects first, but I ran into several hiccups and on the day of the deadline I only had the head printed, with only a couple of the listed objects. However, there was no time to print the wave as a base for the items, so I focused on the head. I did some rough sanding and painting, finishing off with a spray of gold and attaching the eyelashes. The base for the face ended up being a wooden stand I fashioned quickly the day before.

At 19:00 in the evening I was finally able to pack the mask and have it ready to be sent off first thing in the morning.

It's not perfect, but it's done.

After I got the mask back I took my time to smooth it out and repainted it once more. I'm a lot more happy with this.
